Tourism 'a booming industry' in Middle East
07 May 2008
Tourism is 'booming' in the Middle East, according to a leading figure in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) travel industry.
Speaking at the 15th Arabian Travel Market, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, president of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and chairman of Emirates, said the ongoing success of tourism in the Middle East was dependent on cooperation among regional countries.
'Tourism is booming across the Middle East, not only here in the UAE,' he said.
'However, this growth can only continue if we take a consolidated approach to make sure that each country's individual tourism products and domestic strategies complement one another.'
The Arabian Travel Market, which is the Middle East's premier travel and tourism event, opened at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre on 6 May.
This year's show boasted its largest ever exhibitor base of 2,208 organisations from 70 countries.
