United to launch to Moscow, Dubai
08 May 2008
United Airlines has announced plans to launch flights to the major global cities of Moscow in Russia and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
Pending government approval, both of the new destinations will be served on a daily basis from United's Washington Dulles hub as of 26 October.
Dubai is set to become the second Middle Eastern city served by the US carrier, after it launched flights between Washington and Kuwait in December 2007.
The connection to Moscow will be the fifth new capital-to-capital service opened by United Airlines in the last two years, bringing the total number of these operations to 12.
John Tague, the carrier's executive vice-president, said: 'Commerce and tourism are growing exponentially in both Dubai and Moscow, and many of our cargo and corporate customers are travelling and shipping there more often to capitalise upon the economic health in these regions.
'With these new routes, we are continuing to show discipline with our capacity deployment by targeting profitable growth opportunities.'
Dubai and Moscow will bring United's total number of international destinations served from Washington to 24, alongside locations such as Rio de Janeiro, Beijing, Rome and Tokyo.
