14 May 2008
Dubai-based airline Emirates has prepared for the forthcoming launch of flights to Guangzhou with a visit to China.
A delegation of executives arrived in Guangzhou to showcase the airline and Dubai before new services are launched on 1 July.
Chinese government officials, VIPs, travel industry members and other stakeholders all met with the visitors.
At a press briefing held to get the promotional visit underway, the airline executives outlined their plans for services to southern China.
Richard Vaughan, senior vice president of commercial operations in east Asia and Australasia, said: 'Dubai and Guangzhou share several common strands both cities are of political, economic, cultural, and social importance in their respective regions.
'Guangzhou is positioned as an air travel hub for Guangdong and the south China provinces, and Dubai for the Middle East and increasingly on the global stage.'
Mr Vaughan went on to describe the Chinese city as a 'vital link' in Emirates' plans for expansion.
