Simpsons Ride opens at Universal Orlando
15 May 2008
Universal Orlando has opened its newest attraction today (15 May) the Simpsons Ride.
The ride was the result of an unprecedented collaboration involving show creator Matt Groening, executive producer James L Brooks and the creative teams of Universal Theme Parks, among others.
It is set in Krustyland, a theme park created by Krusty the clown, and features original animation starring cast members including Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner and Hank Azaria, as well as guest star Kelsey Grammer.
The attraction also boasts a 9.5-metre-tall Krusty figure at its entrance and the world's first animated corkscrew.
Commenting on the ride opening, Groening said: 'For 20 years I've been dreaming about this, and here it is - a wild, thrilling Simpsons Ride put together by a huge number of talented artists and amusement-park maniacs.'
Tom Williams, chairman of Universal Parks and Resorts, said that the Simpsons Ride is 'the perfect complement to our brand of entertainment'.
The Simpsons is the most successful animated show in the history of television, winning 23 Emmy Awards and now in its 19th season.
