Aegean Airlines celebrates new route from Stansted
16 May 2008

Greek carrier Aegean Airlines is celebrating the launch of a new direct route from Stansted to Athens this week.

The twice-daily service will allow passengers to fly from the London hub to Athens International Airport all year round.

Passengers who took advantage of the new route on its debut day yesterday enjoyed a party atmosphere onboard, with champagne being served and gifts handed out.

The airline already offers flights to 16 other Greek holiday hotspots as well as international destinations such as Milan, Frankfurt and Cairo.

Athens' scorching summers and unique historical sites make it a popular destination with holidaymakers and particularly British travellers.

Attractions worthy of note in the bustling hub include The Acropolis, home to the magnificent Parthenon and the city's National Archaeological Museum.

As well as being a hotspot in its own right, it is also often used as a stop off point for travellers heading off to explore the Greek islands.
