Etihad to launch new Indian flights
22 May 2008

Etihad Airways is set to boost air connections between the Middle East and central Asia this year when it launches new flights to India.

The Abu Dhabi-based carrier will begin services to Kozhikode and Chennai on 1 August.

Both connections will operate on a daily basis using an Airbus A320, carrying up to 120 passengers in economy class and 20 business travellers.

Kozhikode will become Etihad's third destination in Kerala, joining Kochi and the state capital Thiruvananthapuram.

Chennai is located on the Coromandel coast of the Bay of Bengal and is the capital of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

These two cities bring the total number of Indian destinations served by Etihad to six. The flights are the result of successful talks between the governments of India and the United Arab Emirates.

James Hogan, Etihad Airways' chief executive, said: 'Etihad has made no secret of the fact that it wants to build up its Indian services and looks forward to expanding its flying programme to the country with the launch of these two exciting new destinations.'
