Etihad to strengthen links with Malaysia
23 May 2008
Etihad Airways, the national carrier of the United Arab Emirates, has announced plans to create closer links with Malaysia Airlines.
The operators signed an agreement that could see them adding new destinations to their respective networks and offering additional frequent flyer benefits to their customers.
James Hogan, chief executive of Etihad and Idris Jala, managing director of Malaysia Airlines, signed the deal in Kuala Lumpur.
Mr Hogan described Malaysia Airlines as a 'natural partner' for Etihad as it has a reputation for 'consistent and high quality service'.
He added: 'Asia is one of our strongest markets and there is huge appetite amongst our customers to travel beyond the Malaysian capital.
'This partnership will hopefully give us an ideal opportunity to expand the number of Asian destinations we offer our customers and we anticipate that it will result in increased traffic and more revenue opportunities for both our airlines.'
Kuala Lumpur is one of seven Asia-Pacific destinations currently served by Etihad, alongside Bangkok, Jakarta, Manila, Singapore, Brisbane and Sydney.
