Nudist flights in Germany cancelled
28 May 2008

Flights carrying German nudists have been scrapped because of 'moral objections', according to reports.

Despite being fully booked, online travel agency OssiUrlaub.de was forced to cancel the chartered flights to the Baltic Sea island of Usedom following negative comments in the media and on the company website.

Enrico Hess, founder of OssiUrlaub.de, said: 'In the former East Germany, naturist holidays were a much-loved way of spending the best weeks of the year. We want to make that freedom possible above the clouds, too.'

Flying from the eastern city of Erfut in Germany, 55 passengers would have had the chance to undress whilst aboard the aircraft but will instead have to settle for a refund from the airline.

OssiUrlaub.de introduced the nudist concept for East-Germans who were nostalgic for the 'free body culture' which thrived in the country after Nazi rule.

Potential nude passengers would have paid £396 for the privilege of travelling in their birthday suit.
