Young travellers want in-flight wireless
29 May 2008

A significant number of young people want to be able to access the internet whilst onboard a flight, reports the Times.

A travel survey by Barclaycard Business revealed that two-thirds of business travellers aged between 18 and 30 would like an onboard wireless facility when flying while only 40% of 51 to 65-year-olds wanted the same opportunity.

Denise Leleux, director of commercial cards at Barclaycard Business, told the newsaper: 'As business travel continues to rise, so too does the need for technological advancements designed to save travelers' time and money.

'Travel technology is constantly evolving, enabling them to do the things they want regardless of location.'

In the same survey of 3,000 business travellers, research revealed that 36% of people reduced the amount they travelled by using technology with 46% of respondents admitting to using the phone more.

'The future growth of business travel is inextricably linked to the advancement of technology – be that technology to book travel, in-flight technology or payment technology,' Ms Leleux told the Times.

Middle-east airline Qatar recently banned in-flight mobile phone calls following complaints from passengers, according to the reports.
