Emirates to receive first A380 next month
06 June 2008

Emirates is to receive its first Airbus A380 from a facility in Hamburg, Germany on 28 July.

The airline has so far kept its A380 interior and onboard product options under wraps, but these will also be unveiled at the ceremony in Hamburg.

When it is fully launched on Emirates' network, the A380 will be able to fly up to 15,000km on a full load and have a fuel economy of 3.1 litres for every 100 passenger kilometres, which is reportedly better than most hybrid cars.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, chairman and chief executive of Emirates, said: 'The A380, with its large capacity and excellent operating economics, will be one of the pillars of Emirates' future growth.

'We've been working very closely with Airbus since the A380 programme's inception back in 2000, and all through the ups and downs from the drawing board to production, we have remained unshakable in our belief that this is the aircraft for the next chapter of aviation.'

The Emirates chairman said demand remains strong for the airline, indicating a positive future despite high oil prices.

Emirates is the largest customer for the A380, with a total of 58 orders worth $18.8bn (£9.57bn) at current prices.
