Plane missing an owner in Vietnam
17 June 2008

Operators of Noi Bai airport in Hanoi, Vietnam are trying to work out who owns a commercial airliner that has been sitting unclaimed on their runway for more than a year.

The Boeing 727 flew to Hanoi from Siem Reap in Cambodia in May 2007 and was abandoned by its pilots.

A Cambodian flag appears on the plane's fuselage, along with the name Air Dream, but airport officials said they have no information about the airline.

One theory, offered to the BBC by a security spokesman from Noi Bai airport, suggests that the aircraft could belong to bankrupt budget airline Royal Khmer.

Airport authorities said that if no company came forward to claim the plane it would be scrapped.

Hanoi is the capital of Vietnam and is considered the country's cultural centre, boasting attractions such as the Hanoi Opera House and the Temple of Literature.

Siem Reap, the Cambodian city that the abandoned plane is thought to have flown from, is home to the famous Angkor Wat temples.
