Arguments 'more of a concern than credit crunch'
19 June 2008

Four in five British people are not willing to give up their summer holiday, despite the stress of the credit crunch, and most are more worried about arguing with their fellow travellers than money, according to research.

A survey carried out by American Express found that two thirds of British holidaymakers had fallen out with their family or friends before even setting off on a trip in the past.

The biggest cause of holiday tension was found to be the volume of possessions being crammed into a suitcase, with nearly half of the survey respondents reporting arguments about this.

Getting to the airport on time is also a source of stress, ahead of the affordability of a holiday and the type of accommodation booked.

The most argumentative holidaymakers are those from Newcastle, according to the study, having more than four spats before even catching the plane.

People from Yorkshire are reportedly the most likely to encounter tension through having to return home to pick up a forgotten item, while Londoners are more likely to row about the dates booked for a holiday.
