Etihad to launch new Heathrow service
25 June 2008
Etihad Airways has announced that it is to launch an additional daily service from its base in Abu Dhabi to London Heathrow.
The carrier will offer three daily connections between the United Arab Emirates and London from October this year, boosting its total number of weekly services to Heathrow from 17 to 21.
This additional flight will complement Etihad's daily service to Manchester, its only other destination in the UK.
Geert Boven, the airline's executive vice-president of sales and services, said: 'It is great news that Etihad will shortly operate a third daily flight between Abu Dhabi and London Heathrow, the world's busiest international airport.
'By adding these new flights to our growing route network we are able to offer a simpler, more convenient travel experience for the flying public.'
The past year has seen an increase in demand for Etihad's flights between the United Arab Emirates and the UK, with more than 306,000 passengers using its Heathrow service and 146,000 people flying through Manchester.
Heathrow began hosting Etihad flights in March 2004, just five months after the airline was established, making it one of the carrier's longest-serving airports.
