Barcelona begins summer sales

Many people planning trips to Barcelona over the coming months will be interested to hear that the city's summer sales season is now underway.
The season, which offers plenty of discounts and special offers all over the popular holiday city, began on 1 July and will continue until 31 August.
Some 50,000 retail outlets in Barcelona and throughout the Catalonia region will participate in the sales. Some will also open on Sunday 6 July, which is one of only eight non-working days on which shops in the city are allowed to open.
Visitors to the popular metropolis in north-east Spain who prefer to relax on the beach rather than rush around the shops will also find an initiative of interest to them this summer – a beach library service.
The scheme is being run by the Barcelona Library Consortium and the City Council environment department and is hoped to encourage beachgoers to read more.
Book, magazine and newspaper borrowing will be available between the hours of 11:00 and 19:00 on Barceloneta beach opposite Hospital del Mar and on the Bac de Roda breakwater on Nova Mar Bella beach.
