Eurostar has announced that it is to add more services between the UK and continental Europe to meet 'fast-growing demand'.

The train operator will add an 18th daily service in both directions on its London to Paris route on Mondays and Thursdays from 8 September.

Weekend services will also be upgraded, with up to 20 trains departing London every Friday from 11 July.

Eurostar claims to have seen 'surging demand' for its services since the introduction of its 186mph high-speed line last year, with growth of more than 100% in some regions north of London as passengers take advantage of through fares.

Communications director Simon Montague said: 'We are delighted at the growing numbers of travellers from the regions and we will soon be rolling out more through fares with other UK train operators.

'The increase in services means we have 24,000 seats available between London and Paris on Mondays to Thursdays, and 30,000 seats on Fridays.'

Eurostar trains run from London's St Pancras International to Paris, Disneyland Resort Paris and Brussels, with connections available to Bruges, Amsterdam, Cologne and other cities.
