07 July 2008
Nottingham East Midlands airport (EMA) has announced that its monthly passenger figures passed half a million for the first time in May, with 534,690 travellers using the gateway.
The fifth month of this year heralded a 10.7% year-on-year increase in passenger numbers at EMA and was also the 26th consecutive month of growth in traffic at the airport.
Domestic scheduled services from EMA saw a 16.6% year-on-year increase in May, while international scheduled activity rose by 10.3%.
Airport managing director Penny Coates said: 'This is a remarkable achievement given the current industry trends.
'It's evidence that passengers choosing to fly from East Midlands appreciate the convenience, comfort and ease that we offer to get their journey off to a great start.'
The holiday periods in May delivered a big boost to EMA's passenger numbers, with 65,000 people travelling on the first bank holiday and 77,000 using the airport during the spring bank holiday.
Palma, Alicante, Malaga, Dublin and Faro were the most popular destinations during these periods.
