Star Alliance lounge opened at Heathrow
07 July 2008
Star Alliance, the airline coalition including bmi, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines and many others, has opened a new lounge at London Heathrow airport.
The facility is Star Alliance's largest lounge and is open to first and business class passengers, invited guests and Star Alliance Gold Card holders travelling through Terminal 1.
Amenities in the new lounge include business areas with computers, internet access and printers, food service points, shower facilities and a children's area.
Lee Hock Lye, vice-president of products and services for Star Alliance, said the lounge represents a "major benefit" for airlines and customers.
He added: "Rather than own separate lounges and incur duplicate construction and operating costs, Star Alliance lounges save the airlines money and give customers a high-quality experience in a comfortable environment that is much larger and with more amenities than the carriers could provide on their own."
Star Alliance will soon be joined by Continental Airlines, after the carrier was extended an official invitation to join the coalition which coincided with its bilateral agreement with United Airlines.
