Brits 'planning driving holidays to cut costs'
08 July 2008
Nearly 12m British holidaymakers are planning road trips to cut costs this summer, according to a new survey.
Research by AA Personal Loans found that nearly half (46%) of Britons are choosing to spend at least one of their holidays in the UK this year and three quarters plan to use their car for trips in the UK and Europe.
More than one in five Britons (22%) said they are planning a driving trip to save money.
Only 5% of the respondents who said they will limit their trip to the UK are doing so for environmental reasons, compared to 17% last year.
Mark Huggins, head of AA Personal Loans, said: 'If taking your car on holiday, give the car a check over, make sure your tyre pressure is correct for the load you are carrying, stick to speed limits and use your air-conditioning sparingly - this will make a big difference to how much you spend on fuel.'
People from the West Country are the most likely to take a holiday in the UK, according to the survey, while Londoners are the most likely to see driving holidays as a less stressful way to travel.
