Passengers happy with Heathrow, Gatwick trains
09 July 2008
Travellers are largely satisfied with the Gatwick Express and Heathrow Express train services, according to a new report.
The spring 2008 National Passenger Survey by rail watchdog Passenger Focus found that the Gatwick and Heathrow services had satisfaction scores of 93% and 92% respectively.
Gatwick Express and Heathrow Express offer direct connections to the UK's two largest airports from Victoria and Paddington train stations.
Other rail operators to receive high scores in the poll, which sought the opinions of more than 25,000 travellers, included Chiltern Railways (89%) and Merseyrail (88%).
However, long-distance operators did not fare as well, with satisfaction scores on services provided by companies such as Cross Country and First TransPennine Express falling by 4%.
Passenger Focus chief executive Anthony Smith said that the main priority that needs to be addressed by the rail industry is value for money, with more than half of the passengers surveyed saying this was their primary concern.
