Tots 'travelling more than ever before'
09 July 2008
Young children, toddlers and babies are being treated to more foreign holidays than any generation before them, according to new research.
A survey by insurance.co.uk found that 60% of children currently under the age of three have been abroad at least once and 30% have visited foreign lands at least three times.
Parents appear eager to introduce their children to travelling as early as possible, with 27% of babies under six months already having been taken on holiday at least four times.
This is in sharp contrast to the older demographic, with a third of survey respondents over the age of 60 saying they have never been abroad.
Steve Grainger, head of insurance.co.uk, said: 'Now that government rules about term-time holidays have become so much stricter, families with school age children are restricted to travelling during the more expensive, school holiday period.
'New parents are aware that they will not be able to benefit from cheap 'kids go free', term-time deals and are making the most of extended maternity leave.'
The most popular destinations for family holidays this year, according to the research, are Spain, the USA and France, while the top locations for travellers over 60 are France, Spain and Italy.
