Many Brits 'disorganised packers'
11 July 2008

A large proportion of British holidaymakers could be much more organised when it comes to packing, with 37% of respondents to a survey admitting to being messy, disorganised or over-zealous packers.

Nearly a quarter (24%) of people polled by the Post Office said they regularly pack too much and take an outfit for every occasion, while 7% said they just throw everything into their bag and 'hope for the best'.

Brits appear willing to reform their ways to help the environment, however, with 52% of people saying they would be happy to pack less to reduce aircraft fuel consumption.

A third of survey respondents said they are often unsure of luggage restrictions before they set off on their holiday and nearly half (45%) admitted to being unfamiliar with rules relating to liquids and food.

Helen Warburton, head of travel services at the Post Office, said: 'The way we travel has changed in recent years. Rising security concerns mixed with increased charges for checking hold luggage has created a sense of confusion. Packing is no small part of that.'

The Post Office has published a 'perfect packing' guide on its website designed to help holidaymakers fill their suitcases quickly and efficiently.
