Myleene Klass launches new liner
11 July 2008

TV presenter Myleene Klass attended a ceremony on 10 July to name Carnival's newest cruise ship the Carnival Splendor.

The classical pianist and former pop star visited the port of Devon to name the vessel, which can carry more than 3,000 passengers and is the first in a new class of Carnival cruise liners.

Myleene used her musical skills to mark the christening of the ship, playing the song I Am Sailing as a deep-sea diver climbed up the side of the liner to smash a bottle of champagne against the hull.

Weighing 113,000 tonnes and boasting features including a 6,400-square-metre spa, the Splendor will become the largest passenger ship to sail from Dover when it sets off on its first cruise to Amsterdam.

The ship will operate European itineraries this summer from Dover and Rome, before heading across the Atlantic to sail from ports in North and South America later in the year.

Next year the Splendor will be replaced by the Carnival Liberty, which will operate from Dover between 9 May and 25 August.
