Ras Al Khaimah expecting tourism boom
14 July 2008
The emirate of Ras Al Khaimah is anticipating a boom in tourism over the coming years, according to reports.
One of the main factors causing RAK Tourism, the organisation responsible for promoting tourism in the emirate, to be confident is the number of hotels set to be built in the near future.
The company said that more than 20 five-star hotels and other premium accommodation providers are set to be up and running within the next five years, reports Gulf News.
A statement from RAK Tourism revealed that the new establishments are forecast to more than double the volume of available rooms in Ras Al Khaimah.
This will help the region accommodate the 2.5m visitors that are expected by 2012.
The statement added: 'From a current capacity of over 1,800 hotel rooms, the influx of new hotel developments - including at least 20 internationally renowned five-star hotels - will deliver up to 3,700 new rooms by 2012.'
Khater Massaad, chief executive of the Ras Al Khaimah Investment Authority, said that tourism activities are continuing to attract domestic, regional and international visitors and hotel development has consequently 'jumped to a new level'.
