Virgin Atlantic to boost Caribbean services
14 July 2008
Virgin Atlantic is set to boost its number of flights to Jamaica over the winter period, according to reports.
The carrier is set to offer five additional services from London Gatwick to the city of Montego Bay.
These extra flights, which will operate on 22, 23 and 29 December and on 5 and 6 January, are expected to prove popular with Jamaicans travelling home for Christmas and Brits escaping the cold winter.
Virgin Atlantic chief executive Steve Ridgway said: 'This route has proved very popular with leisure customers and these additional flights will provide a further boost to the region's economy, with over 2,000 passengers expected to take advantage of the extra services.'
Gatwick is the airline's main base for services to the Caribbean, with regular flights available to Tobago, St Lucia, Kingston, Barbados and Antigua.
From its central hub, London Heathrow, Virgin Atlantic flies to long-haul destinations including Hong Kong, Cape Town, Sydney, San Francisco and Mumbai.
