London to celebrate vision and design
14 July 2008
People from all over the UK and Europe will be given an extra reason to visit London in September as the city hosts the Design Festival.
This festival, which will take place from 13 to 23 September this year, has grown from its origins in 2003 to the point that it stands alongside events such as London Fashion Weekend and the London Film Festival.
The 2008 event is expected to be the biggest yet, with more than 200 public projects and shows spread across 150 different venues around the city, including museums, shops, colleges and trade shows.
Acting as the focal point for the festival will be the Southbank Centre, which will host a number of design-related events.
Trafalgar Square will be taken over by Jamie Hayon, who will create an installation project inspired by the architecture of his native Spain.
Another feature of the festival will be its many 'design destinations' concentrated areas of artistic areas in the city.
These will include the Brompton Design District stretching from the Serpentine Gallery to the Brompton Quarter Covent Garden and East End locations such as Brick Lane and Shoreditch.
Opodo cheap flights, hotels and car hire - let the journey begin!
