Grand Canyon no 1 on Brits' 'bucket lists'
16 July 2008

The Grand Canyon is the one destination that British people would most like to visit before they die, according to a new survey.

To coincide with the DVD release of the film The Bucket List, which sees Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson fulfilling their lifelong ambitions, Warner Home Video asked more than 1,500 Brits where they would like to go before they 'kick the bucket'.

Arizona's Grand Canyon topped the list, followed by the Pyramids in Egypt, the Great Barrier Reef, Niagara Falls and the Canadian Rockies.

The Great Wall of China was in sixth place and was followed by four highly popular city holiday destinations – New York, Sydney, Rome and Venice.

Women who responded to the survey generally showed a preference for romantic city break destinations such as New York and Rome, while men expressed more interest in exotic locations such as India's Taj Mahal and Machu Picchu in Peru.

When survey participants were asked about their more general life ambitions, the most common response was visiting the seven wonders of the world, followed by swimming with dolphins, going on safari and learning to speak another language.
