Travellers offered 'free stuff' guide
21 July 2008

With the credit squeeze continuing to pinch at travellers' disposable incomes, many people may be on the lookout for as many free sights and activities as possible.

To offer these budget holidaymakers a helping hand, Travel & Leisure magazine has published a guide entitled The World's Best Free Stuff.

Many locations offer free sightseeing tours, according to the magazine, which involve local volunteers leading trips around destinations such as Toronto, New York City, Paris, Buenos Aires and Adelaide.

Another money-saving strategy is to take advantage of free bicycle-lending services, which are available in cities such as Copenhagen, Zurich, Bern and Helsinki.

People planning a visit to one of the world's top sights, such as the Louvre in Paris or the Sistine Chapel in Rome, can save money by downloading a free podcast offering step-by-step guides of the attractions, rather than hiring a museum wand.

Travel & Leisure also provided a list of popular establishments that are completely free to enter, such as London's Tate Modern; Washington's Smithsonian museums and National Zoo; and the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago.
