One in three UK travellers 'will ignore credit crunch'
29 July 2008

One in three British people are set to continue taking summer holidays despite the impact of the credit crunch on their finances, according to a new survey.

The BBC polled 1,007 people and found that those from Scotland are the least likely to give up their annual break, while people in the West Midlands are the most likely to forgo their holiday.

Of the various age groups polled, those in the 18 to 24 bracket are the least prepared to sacrifice their holiday for financial reasons.

Many people plan to adapt their trips, however, with 40% saying that their choice of destination would be influenced by the strength of the euro.

Despite this fact, Spain continues to be Brits' favourite holiday destination, according to the Association of British Travel Agents, although there has been rising interest in locations such as Turkey and Egypt.

Figures from the Spanish Tourist Board show that the country received more visitors from the UK between January and May this year, but these tourists were spending less.
