Continental unveils new business class option
29 July 2008

Continental Airlines this week announced details of its new lie-flat business class seat option at the National Business Travel Association show in Los Angeles.

The 180-degree seat is the centrepiece of the airline's BusinessFirst service, which it claims will offer the space and amenities of first class 'at a business class price'.

Facilities provided with the new seat include up to two metres of sleeping space when it is fully extended; laptop, USB and headset plugs; iPod connectivity; video screens and additional storage for personal items.

The seat will be installed on Continental's 787 Dreamliner, 777 and 757 aircraft, with the 777 set to be the first to offer the option on transatlantic and transpacific flights in autumn 2009.

Installation on the 787 is set to begin when Continental begins receiving the aircraft from manufacturer Boeing.

Airline chief executive Larry Kellner said: 'Continental continues to invest in its product to make flying more comfortable for our global customers.

'We created a brand-new seat designed to lie completely flat, without compromising functionality or effective use of cabin space.'
