P&O Cruises has announced the launch of a number of new 'once in a lifetime' shore excursions.

The company said that the new trips have been created to meet the needs of 'new and more adventurous' cruise passengers.

Excursions are organised by region, with the highlights of the Mediterranean options including a drive in a red Ferrari F430 through Livorno and a visit to a perfumery near the port of Cannes in France.

In the Caribbean, passengers can go zip-wiring through a Jamaican rainforest while options in the Baltic and northern Europe including a trip on a snow truck in Reykjavik.

Nigel Esdale, managing director of P&O Cruises, said: 'We are now attracting more new-to-cruise passengers than ever before and these holidaymakers are looking for something a little different to do onshore than a guided coach tour.

'We can now offer them experiences that simply would not be possible on any other type of holiday.'

P&O Cruises that, from October this year, its Oceana, Ventura and Artemis liners will be smoke free in all inside areas.
