Another record breaking month for Birmingham airport
11 August 2008
Birmingham airport has announced that it achieved another record-breaking month in July as it handled more than 1.03m passengers.
This level of traffic, which comprised 718,958 scheduled passengers and 317,177 charter travellers, made last month the busiest July on record for the airport.
It also brought the 12-month total from 1 August 2007 to 31 July 2008 to 9.53m passengers, which was a 4.3% increase on the previous yearly figure.
Joe Kelly, acting managing director of Birmingham airport, said: 'It is another record-breaking month for the airport, following in the path of February, March, April and May.
He added: 'Biarritz, Bratislava, Bydgoszcz, Gdansk, Olbia, Perpignan, Stockholm and Trapani were all new routes that started from the airport in July, helping to reach these record numbers.'
Birmingham airport could see its passenger figures boosted further in December this year when it hosts its first flights to the city of Istanbul, which will be operated by Turkish Airlines.
