Banff National Park takes no 1 YouTube spot
12 August 2008

Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada has taken top spot in the YouTube charts for the country as some 20,000 people viewed videos of the park.

Web users logged onto the media-sharing website to watch recordings of people canoeing on the park's Moraine Lake.

Viewers in countries such as Australia, the UK, Germany, Japan and France helped the video become the ninth most watched in the world, according to Travel Alberta.

A series of 80 videos of the experiences on offer in Banff National Park has been released as part of a promotional strategy. The films have attracted a combined total of 100,000 views on YouTube alone.

Steve Wright of marketing company Radar DBB said: 'Banff Lake Louise Tourism's success in social media means that every minute of every day, someone somewhere in the world is watching a travel experience in Banff National Park.

'We are no longer limited by the seasonal campaigns afforded by budget.'

Banff National park covers more than 6,600 square kilometres of mountainous terrain, encompassing glaciers, ice fields, coniferous forests and alpine landscape.
