New rail experience to be launched in Australia
13 August 2008
Visitors to Australia will be able to take advantage of a new rail experience that will be launched in the country this November.
The Southern Spirit will combine 'on-board luxury' with excursions and exclusive events, according to Tourism Australia.
Passengers on the train's first journey will set off on 25 November from Darwin in the upper reaches of the Northern Territory for Sydney in the south-east.
This 13-day trip through the heart of Australia will take in the country's Red Centre region and include stopovers in Katherine, Alice Springs, Adelaide, Melbourne and Canberra.
Stays at five-star hotels will be incorporated into the trip, as well as activities such as a candlelit meal underground at Cooper Pedy and a seafood dinner at Coffs Harbour.
Eight different itineraries will be on offer, but they will not come cheap. The gold service will be priced at A$10,290 (£4,700) while the platinum option will cost A$13,290.
Another attraction on offer to tourists in Australia this year will be Oysterfest, the country's largest oyster festival, which will take place in the southern town of Ceduna from 2 to 5 October.
Opodo cheap flights, hotels and car hire - let the journey begin!
