Oneworld to help promote tourism in Peru
15 August 2008
The oneworld airline alliance plans to put its weight behind a major campaign to attract tourists to the South American country of Peru.
Oneworld will link up with national tourist organisation PromPeru to encourage people in the 150 countries served by its airlines to travel to the destination.
This initiative, which is thought to be the first of its kind in North or South America, follows similar projects pursued by oneworld in partnership with the tourism organisations of Japan and Budapest.
Nicolas Ferri, oneworld's vice-president of commercial operations, said: 'Promoting travel to Peru is a great way for all the oneworld member airlines to highlight one of the alliance's most amazing and attractive home countries, our leadership as an airline alliance in Latin America and also the great value and flexibility offered by our Visit South America fare.'
The leading Peruvian airline, LAN Peru, is an affiliate member of oneworld, as are LAN Ecuador and LAN Argentina, while LAN Chile is a full member of the alliance.
British Airways and Japan Airlines both offer flights elsewhere in South America and Qantas is set to launch services to Buenos Aires in November.
Between them, oneworld's member airlines operate around 9,000 departures every day to almost 700 destinations in nearly 150 countries.
Opodo cheap flights, hotels and car hire - let the journey begin!
