18 August 2008

The over-50s age group are keen to see the world and experience new adventures and challenges, according to one commentator.

Alliance & Leicester claims that one in four Britons aged over the age of 50 intend to go on holiday to Australia or New Zealand.

Moreover, a daring three per cent of this age group wish to visit the continent of Antarctica for adventures.

"For many people, turning 50 is a significant milestone and a time when people gain a new lease of life," Emma Walkley, current account manager at Alliance & Leicester said.

She added that according to the study, over 50s go to great lengths to keep healthy and fit as they get older.

The research also showed that more than a million over 50s would like to try their hand at bungee jumping, skydiving, scuba diving, flying a helicopter or running a marathon.

Last year, Alliance & Leicester reported that an increased number of over-50s had both the time and finances to go to far flung destinations on holidays.
