One in 10 holiday flings 'lead to wedding bells'
27 August 2008
The holiday fling may no longer be seen as just a bit of fun in the sun, according to research, with nearly one in ten Brits eventually marrying someone they met during a holiday romance.
A survey by moneysupermarket.com found that people over 60 are the most likely to find love abroad, with one in five tying the knot with their holiday partner.
More than a third of Brits have had flings during foreign trips but nearly half said that the relationship did not last past the holiday.
Europe appears to be the best place for an overseas romance, with nearly one in three holiday relationships occurring during visits to the continent.
Peter Gerrard of moneysupermarket.com said: 'For all those looking for fun and love in the sun, the chances of a holiday romance look pretty good.
'It seems the over-60s are hopeless romantics and it's great to know that you are never too old to find love.'
Unsurprisingly, Paris was found to be the top European destination to find love abroad, followed by Majorca, Barcelona, Tenerife and Rome.
