Golden girl Moss to come to British Museum
28 August 2008

Visitors to London will be able to see Kate Moss as she has never been seen before at an exhibition at the British Museum this year.

Artist Marc Quinn has created a £1.5 million solid gold sculpture of Moss that will be exhibited as part of the Statuephilia exhibition at the British Museum from 4 October.

Mr Quinn said the 50kg creation was inspired by the somewhat iconic image that the supermodel has assumed in modern culture.

He is no stranger to unusual artistic creations, having previously created the marble sculpture Alison Lapper Pregnant, which appeared in Trafalgar Square, and made a bust of his head using eight pints of his own frozen blood.

'I thought the next thing to do would be to make a sculpture of the person who's the ideal beauty of the moment,' the sculptor said.

'But even Kate Moss doesn't live up to the image.'

The sculpture, called Siren, will be exhibited alongside 200 plastic skulls by Damien Hirst and work by Antony Gormley, the creator of the Angel of the North.
