Millions of Brits 'to book 2009 holidays this year'
01 September 2008
Some 5m British consumers plan to get their 2009 holiday plans underway early by making reservations over the next few months, a new survey has found.
Research company TNS polled 2,000 people in a study carried out for Travel Weekly magazine and found that 10% are intending to book their summer break before December.
A quarter of the eager holidaymakers polled said they are already looking through brochures to help them decide on the type of trip they will take next year.
The main reasons given for booking holidays so early were the guarantee of a first-choice destination and the chance to take advantage of cheap deals.
Tom Costley, head of travel and tourism for TNS, said: 'This early indication of the prospects for the 2009 season must be reassuring for the holiday industry.
'There seems to be resilience among large sections of the population that holidays are of sufficient importance that it is worth planning ahead for 2009, despite economic uncertainty.'
Nearly two thirds (60%) of the people surveyed said that their holiday plans are unlikely to be affected by negative conditions in the British economy.
Opodo cheap flights, hotels and car hire - let the journey begin!
