New Zealand 'still favourite for Brits'
02 September 2008
UK travellers have voted New Zealand their number one international holiday country, Tourism New Zealand has claimed.
The Conde Nast Traveller Readers' Travel Awards 2008 gave top place to New Zealand, making 2008 the fifth year in a row that the island nation has been ranked one of the top five countries by the magazine's readership.
Tourism minister Damien O'Connor said the award shows that New Zealand is delivering a 'high quality experience' to its visitors and told tourism operators they should be 'justifiably proud'.
He added: 'With Tourism New Zealand's latest $7.3m campaign due to launch in the United Kingdom on Sunday, this is timely recognition that New Zealand continues to exceed the expectations of visitors from our second largest market.
'Our ability to continue to compete with other countries will depend on delivering a better product than our competitors, ensuring we are environmentally, economically, socially and culturally sustainable.'
New Zealand received an overall satisfaction score of 95% and was listed third in the 'top 100' section of the awards, which included other parts of the travel industry such as airports, hotels and cruise lines.
The country was followed in the 'favourite country' category by India, Italy, Thailand and Brazil.
