AA carries Tutankhamun to Dallas
22 September 2008
American Airlines (AA) carried an unusual passenger recently when it helped transport the Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs exhibition from London to Dallas, Texas.
The carrier, which claims to be the world's biggest airline, was given the responsibly of shipping more than 130 priceless artefacts, some of which have never been seen outside of Egypt before the exhibition's current tour.
During its four-city US tour from 2005 to 2007, the Tutankhamun exhibition attracted nearly 4m visitors and is set to be just as popular when it returns this autumn.
David Brooks, president of the AA cargo division, said: 'AA Cargo is honored to have been part of such a monumental assignment.
'The opportunity to transport this priceless exhibition with enormous historical significance was certainly an exciting challenge for the professionals of AA Cargo.'
The Tutankhamun exhibition will be open at the Dallas Museum of Art from 3 October until 17 May 2009 before heading to two yet-to-be-named US cities.
