Canada 'thrilled' to be in Lonely Planet top 10
25 September 2008

The Canadian Tourism Commission has announced that it is 'thrilled' at its country's inclusion in the Lonely Planet list of the top ten places to visit in 2009.

Lonely Planet, which is one of the world's most respected travel guide publishers, is set to release its Best in Travel 2009 guide in October, which will include advice on hundreds of the top trends, destinations and experiences in tourism.

The company's editors said: 'Canada is too polite to say so, but it's ready to be feted. Winter or summer, Canada is a land of action, with an insane amount of terrain to play on.'

According to the Canadian Tourism Commission, the country's mountains, lakes, cities and festivals will now see an influx of the 'cool-hunting hipsters' who pay great heed to the recommendations of Lonely Planet.

Cultural events in Canada next year will include the International Jazz Festival in Montreal, Quebec and the Calgary Stampede in Alberta.

New Zealand also receives positive reviews in Lonely Planet's guide to 2009, according to One News, with destinations such as Auckland, Queenstown, Lake Taupo and Rotorua all singled out for praise.
