Hilton announces major expansion plans
03 October 2008
Hilton has announced plans to quadruple its presence in the Caribbean and Latin America by opening 150 new hotels over the next five years.
The hotel chain currently has 51 properties in the Caribbean and Latin America and will boost its portfolio to more than 200 hotels with the expansion.
In the Caribbean region, the company's aim will be to add 'focused-service' hotels, such as Hilton Garden Inn and Hampton Inn, to locations including San Juan, Trinidad and Nassau.
There will also be luxury properties opened in the Turks and Caicos Islands, the Lesser Antilles and the Bahamas.
Twenty new hotels are planned in Mexico, in locations including Guadalajara, Los Cabos, Cancun and Tulum, while the Central America region is set to see new properties in Costa Rica, Panama and Nicaragua, among others.
Brazil will be a focus point for Hilton's developments in South America, with new openings planned in Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Brasilia. There will also be growth in the South American capitals of Buenos Aires, Lima and Santiago.
Ted Middleton of Hilton said: 'Hilton Hotels Corporation is placing significant emphasis on growth in the Caribbean and Latin America, supported by a development team made up of six of some of the industry's most qualified professionals.'
