08 October 2008
Birmingham airport has announced that it saw another year-on-year passenger increase in September, with some 984,245 people travelling through its two terminals in the month.
The flow of traffic, which included 687,139 scheduled travellers and 297,106 charter customers, represents an increase of 1.5% on September 2007.
EU routes from Birmingham saw passenger growth of 14.5%, while services to Ireland carried 7.2% more travellers.
Particular flights to carry more customers included Birmingham's connections to Marseille (53%), Ibiza (44%), Amsterdam (6%) and Paris (3%).
Peter Vella, the airport's business development director, said: 'September saw an increase in passengers travelling through the airport compared against the same month last year, which again reaffirms the reputation of Birmingham airport as the region's gateway to the world.
'With the airport celebrating its busiest ever month in August and with a number of exciting new routes launching in the coming weeks and months, there has never been a better time for people to fly from their local airport.'
August this year saw a record 1.08m people travel through Birmingham airport, following on from the busiest July in the airport's history.
