'Shoes-on' detection system installed at Israel airport
14 October 2008

A weapons detection system that removes the need for travellers to take off their shoes when passing through airport security has been launched at Ben Gurion airport in Tel Aviv, Israel.

The MagShoe system, which was developed by IDO Security, is being used at security checkpoints throughout the airport's main terminal.

According to the manufacturers, the MagShoe provides a thorough check of passengers' feet and ankles without the need for shoes to be removed, reducing travel delays and discomfort.

The technology is already in use at a number of other airports, stadiums, government agencies and cruise ports around the world.

Nissim Ben-Ezra of the Israel Airports Authority said: 'Traveller safety is always our first priority and our process for vetting new security technologies is rigorous.

'IDO Security's MagShoe is at the cutting-edge of the market and allows us to continue to provide the highest levels of security to our international passengers.'

With more than 10m passengers every year, Ben Gurion airport is the major gateway to and from Israel and is renowned for its safety and security.
