Brits flocking across the Pond
05 August 2008
British holidaymakers are heading to the US in their droves thanks in part to the strength of the pound against the dollar.
Tourist organisation the Visit USA Association says that it is expecting record numbers of travellers from the UK to continue to spend their vacations in the country.
Figures show that during May of this year around 343,000 people travelled to the US - taking the total number of visitors this year to 1.79m.
The figure is 8.2% higher than it was during the same period in 2007.
Chairman of the group Peter Moss, told the Times: 'The early booking signs pointed towards 2008 becoming a very good year for travel to the USA and these latest UK-USA arrival statistics have now confirmed that forecast.
'They really do support the fact that 2008 may well go on to become the biggest year ever for UK travel to the USA possibly as high as five million visitors.'
Opodo cheap flights, hotels and car hire - let the journey begin!
