Glasgow 'a world class city'
15 October 2008
Glasgow has been named a 'world class city' in a new Lonely Planet book to be released this week.
The guide publisher's Best in Travel 2009 book, which will look at the world's major travel trends, destinations, journeys and experiences for the coming year, will feature Glasgow as the only UK destination in its 'top ten cities' section.
Glasgow was included in the list for its contemporary attributes, world-class designers and impressive architecture.
Lonely Planet travel editor Tom Hall said: 'The time has come for Lonely Planet to let one of its worst kept secrets out: Glasgow's got everything.
'When we put together Best in Travel 2009 we were looking for the best places to go and things to do in the world right now. We're delighted to highlight such a fun, stylish city.'
Lonely Planet's top ten cities list also included Antwerp, Chicago, Mexico City, Sao Paulo, Shanghai and Zurich.
Travellers who buy Best in Travel 2009 will be able to browse sections listing the worlds 'happiest places', the 'best eco-trips' and the 'top ten places to steal a kiss'.
Opodo cheap flights, hotels and car hire - let the journey begin!
