New travel guides to be launched on smartphones
03 October 2008
Technology-savvy travellers could soon be able to access more travel information on their iPhone and iTouch digital media devices.
Travel guide specialist Frommer's has launched a project to offer interactive city-based content on the smartphones, Travolution reports.
The initiative, which has seen Frommer's team up with technology firm Modality, is set to begin with guides to the major tourist cities of New York, San Francisco, Paris and London.
Designed to work offline, the guides will enable customers to look at maps, restaurant and hotel reviews, location services and general travel tips on their iPhones.
S Mark Williams, founder and chief executive of Modality, said: 'Most travellers are already carrying these personal media devices with them.
'The expanded functionality of the iPhone and iPod offers ease of use and unlimited information at consumers' fingertips, greatly enhancing their overall travel experience.'
Larry Olson of Wiley, the company that operates the Frommer's brand, said that by partnering with Modality, the firm was positioning its content 'to appeal to the most savvy pleasure- and adventure-seekers in the marketplace'.
Opodo cheap flights, hotels and car hire - let the journey begin!
