Qantas to boost South Africa services
13 August 2008

People planning long-haul travels across the world will be interested to hear that Qantas plans to increase its number of services to South Africa.

The flag-carrying airline will add an extra weekly flight from Sydney to Johannesburg from 16 December this year.

Announcing the change, Qantas general manager John Borghetti said that the Boeing 747 operating the route will offer seats in first class, business class, premium economy and economy.

He added: 'South Africa is an important market for Qantas for both business and leisure travel. This new service will add another 350 seats per week, and more than 18,000 seats per year, on the route.

'We have recently introduced premium economy on our South African services offering customers a new inflight experience that includes a 19.5-inch-wide seat, generous recline and leg room up to a 40-inch pitch.'

Qantas' connection between Sydney and Johannesburg will be operated on a codeshare basis with South African Airways.

Skytrax recently voted the Australian carrier the world's third best airline behind Cathay Pacific and Singapore Airlines.
