Qatar Airways to connect Doha to New York
28 August 2008
Middle Eastern air carrier Qatar Airways has announced that it is to launch a new non-stop flight connecting Doha to New York.
The airline confirmed that the service will begin on 26 October and will use its new Boeing 777 extended range aircraft, cutting three hours off the current 17-hour flight time between Doha and New York.
Qatar Airways currently flies to the gateway of Newark via Geneva, but will now fly directly to New York's JFK airport.
The airline will no longer provide a connection between Geneva and Newark but will increase seat capacity between Doha and Geneva, turning this route into a dedicated service.
Akbar Al Baker, chief executive officer of Qatar Airways, said: 'As we have introduced more aircraft into our fleet, we have been able to increase frequency on the New York route from four flights a week to six services in just 12 months.
'We are now preparing to go daily with our brand new Boeing 777s featuring lie-flat business class seats from October and offer[ing] unprecedented levels of space and comfort, which will truly give us an edge over our competitors in the Middle East and around the world.'
Qatar Airways was voted the best airline in the Middle East in this year's World Airline Awards.
