Hotels get involved in US election
13 October 2008
The forthcoming presidential election in the United States has become such a hot topic that even hotels are getting involved in the build-up to the event, according to reports.
Accommodation providers are serving John McCain- and Barack Obama-themed cocktails, hosting straw polls in bars and providing election-themed menus.
The range of tailored drinks on offer includes the Palin 'pit-bull', named after vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin, at the Ritz-Carlton in Washington DC, USA Today reports.
At the Hotel Monaco in Denver, the bar has been serving up 'blue Bama' cocktails and 'right wing Johnnys', with the former reportedly proving more popular among drinkers.
Election fever is not restricted to the United States, however, as the Hotel Concorde La Fayette in Paris has been serving the 'O-burger' in tribute to Mr Obama and the 'elephant burger' to recognise Mr McCain's adopted state of Arizona.
The 56th United States presidential election will be held on 4 November and could conclude with an African American man being sworn in as president for the first time in the country's history.
